The first step in joining a voyage is to email or phone the voyage team to discuss your options:

The team will email you out an Expression of Interest Form or alternatively you can fill in the Form online.

Once we have your Expression of Interest Form we will either call you to discuss your application or email you the Endeavour Voyaging Application Pack (this includes a medical clearance form that will need to be filled in by your doctor). Once we receive back all your completed application forms, the team will assess your suitability for the voyage and contact you.

The actual cost varies depending on the length of the voyage.  The daily cost is determined by the option you choose between Voyage Crew and Supernumerary.  Voyage Crew will pay $270 per voyaging day and Supernumeraries will pay $500 per voyaging day. 

Voyage Crew (example 11 day voyage charged @ $270 per day – Total cost $2970)
As a voyage crew member you will sleep in hammocks and stand watch, set and take in sail, helm the ship and help keep her clean. Voyage crew must be able to climb aloft (39 metres in a harness).

Supernumerary (example 11 day voyage charged @ $500 per day - Total Cost $5500)
Supernumerary berths are ideal for those who prefer not to do the sailing activities or who do not meet all the physical requirements for going aloft. You can choose your level of involvement, but will be encouraged to help crew the ship where possible. You will occupy single cabins and relax in the Great Cabin, just as Cook himself did.

Note:  Only one discount is applicable on any one voyage.
You will need to pay for your own transport to and from the departure and arrival port. If you don’t want to buy wet weather sailing gear we will have this specialised equipment for hire.

Endeavour has 2 x 405hp Caterpillar diesel engines on-board. We plan our voyage schedule for as much sailing as possible but our engines are used for safety as well as to maintain our 21st century schedule.

Definitely! Endeavour has a 20th century deck which has modern, hot freshwater showers and marine toilets. Showers must be used sparingly as the ship carries a limited supply of fresh water. 

No. For safety reasons, Endeavour is a dry ship and voyage crew and supernumeraries are not permitted to bring alcohol on-board.

Due to the application process, we do not offer gift certificates for voyages. Each applicant is assessed by the Endeavour office to ensure medical clearance for the voyage.

Parking at the Australian National Maritime Museum will not be available.

No. Due to insurance, security and workplace health and safety policies, voyage crew and supernumeraries are unable to stay on-board Endeavour the night before their voyage.

The day of departure involves various briefings and training and therefore no visitors are allowed on board during your pre-departure day. However, when Endeavour arrives at her destination port, family and friends are very welcome to come on-board for a look!

The average speed that Endeavour can sail is 4.5 knots, although the ship can easily sail at 8 knots and has achieved over 10 knots in ideal conditions.

Each Endeavour voyage has 56 people on board - 16 professional crew, 36 voyage crew and 4 supernumeraries.

We require a $500 (non-refundable) deposit to confirm your place on your voyage which is payable once you have received confirmation that you've been accepted onto a voyage. Acceptance onto the voyage will be determined once your Medical Clearance Form is received and the voyaging team has assessed your suitability. An offer will be emailed to you with details of how to pay your deposit. 

Deposits are paid via the secure Eventbrite website - payment options include AMEX, MasterCard and Visa. If you have any issues paying via this method the Voyaging Team will be able to assist.

Yes! All crew joining Endeavour are given an induction into the ship and the first day is dedicated to training all new crew in line and sail handling, climbing aloft and safety procedures. Sailing Endeavour is different to sailing a modern sailing vessel and all crew, regardless of sailing experience, are treated equally.

Voyage crew assist the professional crew with sail handling on Endeavour and this will involve climbing the rigging to set the sails. The professional crew train the voyage crew on how to climb aloft safely as part of your induction. All crew are issued with a safety harness when they join and are required to clip on to the rigging when climbing aloft. No one is forced to climb, however it's preferred if you are willing to when required. If you're unable to climb aloft the first time, it may pose a challenge for you to get to a higher point as the voyage continues. Experience on past voyages has shown that the more you try climbing aloft the easier it becomes. If you're unsure whether you can climb, or would like some practice in climbing, we suggest visiting an indoor rock climbing facility to help acclimatise yourself before setting sail. Note: Supernumeraries are not required to climb. 

It's a requirement for all crew members to be able to swim to the extent that they would be able to swim to a lifebuoy if they need to be rescued. At a bare minimum, you will need to be able to tread water in the event that you are required to be rescued. 

Due to insurance and safety procedures, you must be at least 18 y.o. to join an Endeavour voyage. All applicants must have the Medical Clearance Form completed by a registered medical practitioner.

When you are not working on the vessel you can read, watch movies, listen to music or engage with others on board in cards and board games. Please note that much of your day will be working as a crew member on the voyage. 

Endeavour has very limited storage space and all personal belongings, apart from wet weather gear and sleeping bags, must fit into a locker (76 x 50 x 50cm).It's essential that you bring adequate warm clothing, including thermals, beanie and gloves as it gets very cold at night at sea.

We recommend appropriate good quality wet weather sailing gear – suitable for extreme weather conditions - including waterproof and windproof jacket and pants, plus warm clothing, sailing gloves and thermals. The museum has this voyaging equipment for hire if needed. 

Full (non- refundable) payment for your voyage is required within four weeks of receiving your deposit and is to be paid through the secure Eventbrite website. It is compulsory for you to take out full travel insurance when booking a voyage.

There are normal three-prong (Plug Type 1) 240 volt electrical sockets on the 20th-century deck. Please note that our electricity is from a generator, so voltage can fluctuate. There is a very small chance that damage to your electrical device may occur.

There is very limited internet access and mobile coverage at sea. If the ship is near shore, a mobile signal from the coast may be available, but there is no guarantee. The ship has a daily blog that is transmitted through a satellite connection.  If there is an urgent message that needs to get to the ship or if an urgent message needs to be sent to shore, the Master can authorise the use of the ship's satellite.

Endeavour is an authentic replica but she still has some mod cons, including a modern galley and a professional catering team who cook hearty meals throughout the voyage to keep energy levels high. There is always plenty of food and you will not need to bring your own provisions. A well fed crew is a happy crew!

As Endeavour sails, the deck pitches and rolls and sometimes even the hardiest sailor can feel the effects. We recommend coming prepared and bringing seasickness tablets with you. 

Talk to your doctor about which medications are best for you. For best results, take the medication before you board the ship and as recommended on the packaging. It is also recommended that you do not take sea sickness medication containing anti-histamine as it can cause drowsiness.

If you are crossing international borders, you must have passport and/or visa requirements organised with the relevant embassy or consulate (based on both passport country of issue and the countries you are voyaging to/though i.e. you will need to check your visa/passport requirements for Australia, New Zealand and/or New Caledonia, depending on the voyage leg you are taking).  If you require assistance with passport/visa information please email the Endeavour Voyaging Team who can assist you. 

It's a requirement that you must take out sufficient travel insurance for the voyage and have adequate cover for death, or any illness, injury or loss you that you may suffer during the voyage, and for any costs you may incur as a consequence of a delay, cancellation or curtailment of the voyage by the Master and/or the Australian National Maritime Museum, or as a consequence of your failure to board the vessel at the scheduled time. We strongly recommend arranging your travel insurance as soon as you pay your deposit. The Endeavour Voyage Team will request details of you travel insurance prior to departure.

The rigging on Endeavour is coated in tar. Therefore, when you climb aloft, there is a chance that your clothing will get marked with tar. Tar is extremely difficult to wash out of clothing.

Sydney to Hobart - HMB Endeavour is voyaging to Tasmania in 2019 to attend the Australian Classic Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart with the arrival marked by taking part in the "Parade of Sail". The festival is a four day celebration of maritime culture which is the biggest maritime event of its kind in the southern hemisphere.  The Festival brings together over 500 boats in Hobart's iconic historic waterfront precinct.

Hobart to Sydney – Come along and soak up the atmosphere of the Australian Wooden Boat Festival then join the adventure starting with basic ship safety training and an introduction to the fundamentals of square rig sailing. Then set sail for Sydney, passing Australia’s spectacular south eastern coastline and visiting Eden.
